Reading is Reading

"I live in two worlds. One is a world of books."

Rory Gilmore, Gilmore Girls (2000).

For the last few years, there has been a rise in book readers. From casual reader to full on bibliophile. On every social platform there’s a book community proudly claiming their beloved hobby, while also making their own opinions. There’s of course the average book discourse; lots of debates on characters and plots, but one of the ongoing discussions is how people choose to read. There’s three main ways: physical copies, audio books, and e-books. Some people say listening to books doesn’t count as reading, that they don’t need to log it into one of the many book logging apps to come out of this renaissance. Others say electronic readers are killing the art. True book lovers can agree that no matter the form—it all counts. Books are books. Reading is reading.

Above all the arguments to be had on what “qualifies” as reading, at the end of the day it’s just a preference. I personally enjoy my physical copies just as much as the ones saved to the Books app on my phone. That’s why I chose this topic; it's something I love, but want to know more about. For my project, I’ll be discussing the three forms. What makes each stand on their own and why they might be looked down upon in the community. I hope we all learn something new from these webpages and pick up a book!
